Ein grosser Präsentator des Swing ist Klarinettist Kenny Davern, der mit "Smiles" ein gutgelauntes, mitreissendes Album aufgenommen hat. Auf vorliegendem Album ist er mit einem wunderbaren Trio zu hören, bestehend aus den Swing-Koryphäen Greg Cohen am Bass, Tony DeNicola am Schlagzeug und abwechselnd mit den Gitarristen Bucky Pizzarelli und Howard Alden. Der Grossteil des Repertoires stammt aus den Jahren 1918 bis 1928, mit den beiden Ausnahmen "Summertime" (in einer extrem gefühlvollen Interpretation) von 1935 dem Geburtsjahr von Kenny Davern und "Bernie's Tune" aus dem Jahre 1953. Seit 1997 gehört Kenny Davern zur American Jazz Hall Of Fame! Swing at its Best!
