Auf “Blues in the Alley”, seiner ersten CD-Veröffentlichung seit 13 Jahren, präsentiert der aus Connecticut stammende Jazz Gitarrist Richie Hart ein Programm von drei funky, Blues-orientierten Originalkompositionen und sieben Jazz Standards. Richie Hart gilt al seine der führenden Autoritäten in den Gitarren-Stilen von Wes Montgomery und George Benson – diese Aufnahme wurde auch teilweise im Privatstudio von George Benson in Englewood Cliffs, NJ aufgenommen. Richie ist bekannt durch seine vielen Auftritte und CD Aufnahmen mit Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Houston Person, Etta Jones, Hubert Laws, Freddie Hubbard, und Roy Hargrove. Richie’s sidemen Rick Petrone am Bass und Joe Corsello am Schlagzeug, sind Veteranen der New Yorker Jazz-Szene : Rick hat zusammengearbeitet mit Maynard Ferguson, Joe Beck, Houston Person , Etta Jones, und Roy Hargrove; Joe Corsello mit Sam Rivers, Barry Miles, Jack McDuff, Gene Bertoncini, John Scofield, und Roy Hargrove.

What stuck me first about Richie Hart was his awesome tone. Then it hit me that his playing was fearless. You feel he’s cooking up his solos right there on the spot, just for you. Joyce Cooling Richie Hart is an exceptional guitarist, rooted in the jazz tradition but with his own point of view. I've heard the trio of Hart, Rick Petrone and Joe Corsello in a variety of settings of the last couple of years and they sound born to play together. Michael Cuscuna … blues-drenched phrasing, a surging rhythmic feel on uptempo burners and a knowing, take-your-time approach on ballads - Connecticut-based guitarist Richie Hart demonstrates those depthful qualities in spades on Blues in the Alley…Hart distinguishes himself with equal parts seasoned restraint and unadulterated burn … a hip quality comes across loud and clear in Hart’s playing here.
