U Turn ist Mads Kjølbys Debütalbum. Nach einem Jahrzehnt auf Tour und vielen Aufnahmen mit verschiedenen internationalen Künstlern ist dies sein erstes Album in der Position eines Anführers. Neun Originalstücke von Mads sind enthalten. Seine Kompositionen wurden entweder auf Reisen durch die Welt geschrieben oder speziell für dieses Album verfasst. Sie variieren zwischen groovigem, swingenden Melodic Jazz und wunderschönen Akustikstücken. Der Fokus lag darauf, die Musik einfach zu halten und durch Melodien hervorzustechen. Neben Mads an E- und Akustikgitarren finden sich in der Band: Kasper Villaume am Piano und E-Piano, Morten Ankarfeldt am Bass und Jesper Uno Kofoed am Schlafzeug. Mads, Morten und Jesper sind Kommilitonen vom Rhythmic Conservatory und Kasper und Mads wuchsen zusammen auf, sie spielten bereits zu Teenagerzeiten gemeinsam. Es ist also eine Band, deren Mitglieder sich hervorragend kennen, was man der Musik sofort anhört. Zu den neun Originalkompositionen gehören ein selten gespielter Standard von Mal Waldron, „Soul Eyes“, und ein Liebling vom Lennon/ McCartney-Katalog, „Eleanor Rigby“. Die Band hat die Stücke zusammen arrangiert und es gibt das ganze Album hindurch eine Menge prickelnder Solos und überraschender Twists.

U Turn is Mads Kjølby’s debut-album. After a decade of touring and recording with various international artists this is his first album as a leader.
The album contains 9 originals by Mads. His compositions are either written on tours around the world or composed specially for this album. They vary between groovy, swinging melodic jazz to beautiful acoustic pieces. The focus has been to keep the music simple and let the melodies stand out.
Beside Mads on electric and acoustic guitars the band is: Kasper Villaume on piano and electric piano, Morten Ankarfeldt on bass and Jesper uno kofoed on drums. Mads, Morten and Jesper are classmates from the rhythmic conservatory and Kasper and Mads grew up together and played together in their teens. So it’s a band whose members know each-other really well and that comes through in the music.
The album includes 9 original compositions, a rarely-played standard by Mal Waldron called Soul Eyes and a favourite from the Lennon/McCartney-catalogue, Eleanor Rigby. The band have arranged the music together and there is plenty of sparkling solos and surprising twists and turns all throughout the album.
