Einstein’s Dreams ist eine spannende live-CD mit spontanen Piano&Bass Duos von Ursel Schlicht und Reuben Radding, einem eingespielten New Yorker Team, aufgeführt in in der wohl traditionsreichsten Konzertreihe für “adventurous music” von Roulette/Location One. Schlicht und Radding arbeiten seit 2002 zusammen und waren seitdem u.a. in John Zorn’s New Yorker Club “The Stone”, beim Polestar Festival for Creative Music in Seattle (USA) und beim Symposium für Aktuelle Musik in Kassel zu hören.
“Wir spielen beide seit Jahren frei improvisierte Musik, Jazz, und verschiedene Formen Neuer Musik, und dennoch empfanden wir unsere intuitive Kommunikation im Zusammenspiel als außergewöhnlich stark und sensibel. In diesem Duo verbinden sich die Sounds im Piano-Innenraum und die erweiterten Techniken auf dem Bass hervorragend mit konventionelleren Spielweissen unserer Instrumente. Wir fordern uns permanent zu neuen Ideen heraus und erweitern in diesem Duo ständig unser musikalisches Vokabular.
Die Pianistin Ursel Schlicht (www.urselschlicht.com) ist international aktiv in improvisierter Musik, Jazz, Neuer Musik und Komposition. Zur Zeit arbeit sie in Duos mit Robert Dick, Reuben Radding, Bruce Arnold, Adam Simmons, Ute Kaiser, leitet Ex Tempore, ein interkulturelles Septet, und spielt mit Ned Rothenberg, Robert Dick, Tomas Ulrich, Ken Filiano and Klaus Kugel im Sextet No Fear Act. Sie hat u.a. Musik für Stummfilme und Tanztheater geschrieben, und Platten auf Leo, Cadence, CIMP, Hybrid, Konnex, Muse-Eek and Nemu Records eingespielt. Ursel Schlicht hat an der Universität Hamburg promoviert.
New York’s Reuben Radding (www.reubenradding.com) ist einer der individuellsten Bassisten der aktuellen Szene improvisierter Musik. Mit seiner herausragenden Technik und seinem starken Ton bedient er sich einer ausgesprochen breiten Palette musikalischer Ausdrucksformen. Er gibt Solokonzerte und hat mit John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, Marc Ribot, Wolfgang Fuchs, Wally Shoup, Saadet Turkoz, Carlo Actis Dato, Dylan VanDerSchyff, Ursel Schlicht, John Hollenbeck, Jack Wright und vielen anderen zusammengearbeitet.

Two improvisers team up for an evocative concert of spontaneous piano/bass duets on einstein’s dreams, their debut release from Konnex Records. Schlicht & Radding have been working together since 2002 and have appeared at The Stone (NYC), Roulette/Location One (NYC), Polestar Festival for Creative Music (Seattle, WA), and were featured performers in the “Symposium für Aktuelle Musik” in Kassel, Germany.

From the artist’s notes: “Both of us have played free improvised music, jazz, and various forms of new music for years, and yet, our mutual understanding was exceptional. In this duo, we found that the occasional textures inside the piano and extended techniques on the bass blended well with playing our instruments more conventionally, and we like challenging each other to continuously expand our vocabulary.” (Ursel Schlicht & Reuben Radding)
Ursel Schlicht (www.urselschlicht.com) is an internationally active pianist, composer, improviser, scholar and educator. She has written for large and small ensembles, dance theater and improvisational scores for silent film. Current projects include duos with Robert Dick, Reuben Radding, Bruce Arnold, Adam Simmons, Ute Kaiser, her intercultural ensemble Ex Tempore, and a sextet with Ned Rothenberg, Robert Dick, Tomas Ulrich, Ken Filiano and Klaus Kugel. She has recorded on Leo, Cadence, CIMP, Hybrid, Konnex, Muse-Eek and Nemu Records. Ursel Schlicht holds a doctorate from the University of Hamburg.
New York's Reuben Radding (www.reubenradding.com) is one of the most distinctive young bassists playing improvised music today. With a deep tone and prodigious technique, Radding draws on an astonishing range of musical languages and extended sounds in his performances, whether solo or in the countless ensembles he has been involved with. Radding leads the quartet "Intersections", and has collaborated with John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, Marc Ribot, Wolfgang Fuchs, Wally Shoup, Saadet Turkoz, Carlo Actis Dato, Dylan VanDerSchyff, Ursel Schlicht, John Hollenbeck, Jack Wright, and many others.
