Auf dieser Debüt-CD vom Nicolas Thys Trio gesellen sich Originalkompositionen, Standards und Popstücke zueinander. Geboten wird reines Akustikspiel (sowohl live als auch im Studio), ein einfaches und effektives Konzept, in dem das Saxophon die Melodie spielt, der Bass kontrapunktisch und rhythmisch mitarbeitet, während das Schlagzeug den beiden Instrumenten Rahmen und Farbe verleihen. Für dieses Trio hat sorgfältiges Hinhören oberste Priorität, denn „der Platz zwischen den Noten ist genauso wichtig, wie die Noten selbst“. In drei Stücken erhält das Trio Verstärkung von der tunesischen Sängerin/ Tänzerin Ghalia ben Ali. Obwohl sie einem gänzlich anderen Hintergrund entstammt, passt sie sich der Musik mit erstaunlicher Leichtigkeit an und gibt ihr damit eine mystische und hypnotische Dimension, die unheimlich natürlich wirkt…

Dieser anerkannte Doppelbass-Spieler pendelt seit 1996 für seine Projekte zwischen New York und Europa (Alice's 5 Moons, Nicolas Thys Trio, Sextet, Nicolas Thys/Mike Kanan Duo) und arbeitet auch mit anderen Gruppen, etwa dem Kris Defoort Quartet, Walter Lang Trio, Bill Carrothers Trio und der Oper "Roméo & Leà¯la" von Ghalia Ben Ali zusammen.

Original compositions, standards and pop songs are mixed and matched on the debut CD from the Nicolas Thys Trio. Purely acoustic (both live and in the studio), a simple and stripped-down concept where the sax plays the melody, the bass adds the counterpoint and rhythmic drive while the drums frame and add colour to the 2 melodic instruments. This is a trio for whom listening is the first priority, "the space between the notes is as important as the notes themselves". A trio joined on 3 tracks by the Tunisian singer/dancer Ghalia ben Ali. Although she comes from a different background, she blends into the music with surprising ease, adding a mystical and hypnotic dimension that is uncannily natural.... A recording that is simple and true, touching and vulnerable, developed by the frontman, Nicolas Thys. This highly-rated double-bass player has been successfully travelling between New York and Europe since 1996, for his own projects (Alice's 5 Moons, Nicolas Thys Trio, Sextet, Nicolas Thys/Mike Kanan duo) and others such as the Kris Defoort Quartet, Walter Lang Trio, Bill Carrothers Trio and the opera "Roméo & Leïla" by Ghalia Ben Ali.
